Johnson, a 6-foot-8 forward/center, was named the Pacific West Conference player of the week on Monday after he averaged 21 points and 7.5 rebounds as the Vulcans went 3-1 during Thanksgiving Week. On Sunday, the junior scored 22 points — 18 in the second half — as UH-Hilo fought back to beat Carleton College 81-71 in overtime.

His high game of season was a 28-point effort Wednesday in a loss to Seattle Pacific.

Heading into Pacific West Conference play, Johnson is second in the league in scoring, averaging 22 points per game.

The Vulcans (4-2) visit defending PacWest champion Chaminade (2-3) on Thursday.

The women’s game is at 5 p.m., while the men follow at 7:30 p.m.
